Colleen Howe
Receives International Honors
Salt Lake artist receives international honors
Naples , Florida , April 19, 2007 – Salt Lake City artist Colleen K. Howe received the Silver Award for her “ Mount Logan ” pastel painting at the tenth juried exhibition of the International Association of Pastel Societies. Howe’s artwork earned the third most prestigious honor at the exhibit featuring artists from the US , Canada , Europe, and Australia . The exhibit is on display through April 29 at The von Liebig Art Center in Naples , Florida .
Anne Hevener, editor of The Pastel Journal, juried all submittals and culled the exhibit to 75 pieces. Pastel artists Greg Biolchini and Duane Wakeman juried the seven winning paintings.
Howe’s studio is located in Sugar House, in the Rockwood Art Studios. She has been a professional artist and art workshop instructor for nearly 20 years, and will be a featured presenter at the biennial IAPS Convention in Albuquerque next month. Her past awards include Best of Show at the Utah State Fair and a recipient of the American Mother of the Year in fine arts painting.

Fran Ellisor, Kaye Franklin, Rick McClure, Chuck Rawle and
Bob Rohm are all participating in the OPS’s annual spring plein air painting event and gallery show will be held in Dallas, Texas and exhibited at the Southwest Gallery. The exhibition and sale of paintings opens to the public Saturday April 21, 2007 and will hang at the gallery through May 19, 2007.

Napa Valley Museum Plein Air Exhibit
"NAPPAP professional members Kathleen Dunphy, Zenaida Mott and Mike Bagdonas were juried into the NAPA Valley Museums, "Northern Views" biennial plein air exhibition. This museum exhibition runs from May 4 to July 8, 2007, with the opening reception on Friday, May 4, 2007. This is Northern California's preeminent plein air museum exhibition. The works of approximately sixty of Northern California's finest plein air painters will make up the exhibition. This years jurors are Kenn Backhaus, Kevin MacPherson and the Director of the Irvine Museum: Jean Stern." An additional plein air show will take place simultaneously at the I. Wolk Gallery in St Helena, California with additional works from the same group of plein air artists.

Carmel Plein Air Competition

The Carmel Plein air Competition will be hosting its 14th annual event. 60 artists were juried into this years event. Plein air painting will occur on May 17th and 18th in Monterey County. May 19th will be the awards ceremony and viewing by public all day preceding the awards.
May 20th in the morning will be a quick draw for two hours by all winning artists in the village of Carmel. Last years winner was Kevin Courtier. Larry Moore recevived the Artists Choice Award and John Poon was also in last year's event. Larry Moore was also the 2005 Best of Show.
This years NAPPAP juried entrants appear to be Mike Bagdonas, Greg LaRock, Larry Moore, and John Brandon Sills.

The plein air event will run from July 22 until July 29. There will be an artist registration and reception Sunday evening, July 22. Artists may paint anywhere in Talbot County July 23rd and 24th, and anywhere in the limits of the town of Easton July 25th and 26th. Possible scenes include village streets, historic structures, industrial areas, pastoral vistas and marine subjects. Artists must turn in two completed, framed and ready to be hung artworks. Any two-dimensional medium is acceptable, but work must be done “en plein air” without the assistance of photography.
